On Meditation.

Meditation. It’s such a lovely word that gets people a bit pinchy and confused. What do I do? How do I do it? Do I have to wear something special? Is it hard? Why don’t I like it? All good and totally fair questions.

Meditation for me and my active brain has been such a wonderful way to center, calm myself and relax. It’s quickly become one of my most favorite times of my day. I do it all times of day - after my 30 minute yoga class with breath work and stillness, lying in my grass in the back yard, or sitting in one of my black and white chairs in the office. I love that I am able to have my practice be whatever it’s supposed to be for that day with no pressure to sit for 45 minutes and breathe. If it’s 60 seconds that day - great. If it’s longer - great! I just had to decide to set that time aside daily for me. For my brain. For my head. For my heart. And it’s gold y’all. Pure gold.

I’ve been meditating on and off now for many years and have read many books on the subject. But this one that I have picked up recently and devoured is my new favorite. It’s called Real Happiness - The Power of Meditation by Sharon Salzberg. It is so honest, straightforward and real I just adore it. The way she talks about trying, and then trying again when it came to her beginning stages of meditation along with her practical tips on how to cultivate a practice is so honest, insightful and refreshing. If you have been thinking about meditation and what it can add to your life, I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Meditation has been for me one of the most effective ways for ME to show up, pay attention, tell the truth and let go.

Much love to you. Now go meditate.
